SERVICE: Better Start National Early Years Quality Development
REPORTING TO: Better Start Team Leader
ROLE PURPOSE/ SUMMARY:
Better Start National Early Years Quality Development Initiative was
established in **Apply on the website** by the Department of Children
and Youth Affairs in association with the Department of Education and
Skills to co-ordinate the work of existing State-funded supports for
quality in early year?s settings and to manage the Early Years
Specialist Service. Better Start is a Government initiative. It is
fully funded by the Department of Children and Youth Affairs and is
hosted by Pobal on behalf of the Department.
The role of the Early Years Specialist is to work directly with early
year?s services in a mentoring role to build their capacity to
deliver high quality, inclusive early childhood care and education
experiences for children and families. This Service works to promote
and develop the quality of practice, as set out in S?olta, the
National Quality Framework for Early Childhood Education, and Aistear,
the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework.
The Early Years Specialist will support a range of diverse early years
settings within a designated case-load and will work in partnership
with the management/staff to develop and implement quality improvement
goals and actions across a wide range of areas of practice guided by
the core elements of S?olta and Aistear as illustrated in the Aistear
S?olta Practice Guide.
